Frequently Asked Questions

How many times do I have to participate?

At any one time in our lab, we have a variety of ongoing studies. Most studies only require one visit; however, depending on your interest, we may contact you for other future studies.

How long does participation take?

Typically, the experiment will take 15-20 minutes. This is preceded by 2-5 minutes of practice or training, and several minutes to fill out the necessary paperwork. We schedule sessions for 1 hour, to allow for travel time, but often the entire session is only 30 minutes total.

What will my child have to do during a session?

There are many possibilities, depending on the child’s age, but some common tasks include: looking at pictures on a computer screen or saying the names of objects presented on a screen.

When do you schedule sessions?

We’re able to accommodate almost any schedule, with enough advance notice – 9:00am to 7:00pm, 7 days a week. Let us know when would be most convenient for you to come to the lab!

Can I bring my other children to the lab?

Yes! We have experienced babysitters on hand to take care of any children who aren’t participating, and a well-stocked play area with books and toys.

Will I learn about my child’s development compared to other children?

Our research is focused on the general tendencies of children as a group, and all the data we collect is combined into a large pool, so we do not calculate individual performances. We can direct you to the appropriate resources if you would like a professional clinical evaluation.
