Call for Papers and Participation Details

The University of Ottawa and the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina in Canada are organizing an International Conference titled “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Contemporary Argentina.” The purpose of this event is to reflect both collectively and from a range of disciplinary perspectives on Argentina today. Writer Alberto Manguel, the Director of Argentina’s National Library, will deliver the opening address. In order to promote interdisciplinary discourse, the following thematic areas are suggested:

  • Literary studies
  • Cultural studies
  • History, memory, and literature: narrative of the Postdictatorial period
  • Digital genres, mass media, cloud and virtual network literature
  • Film studies and media arts
  • Music and visual arts
  • History and historiography
  • Archeology, architecture and anthropology
  • Democracy, human rights and memory
  • Politics and international relations
  • Education and development
  • Economics and geopolitics
  • Linguistic studies and translation
  • Migration, cities, urban and environmental studies
  • Civil society, gender issues, violence and insecurity

To Submit a Proposal

Please send your proposal for a paper to be delivered in no more than twenty minutes (8 pages double-spaced). In response to this initial call for papers, submit only the title and a 200-word summary in English, French or Spanish. We also invite proposals for panels or roundtables, with a maximum of four participants. Proposals must be submitted electronically to CongresoArgentina2018@gmail.com.

Deadlines for Submissions

The deadline for submitting a proposal is December 10, 2017. The Conference’s Organizing Committee will review and select proposals with the goal of organizing a varied and original program. Decisions will be communicated by December 15, 2017.

International Participants

Once a proposal is approved, the Committee will provide a formal confirmation of acceptance so that individuals may immediately apply for a Canadian visa directly at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/.  This site provides information on how to obtain a visa. At the same time, the Organizing Committee will forward the letter of confirmation to the Canadian Embassy in the relevant country of residence.

Conference Fees

Registration fees are $125 Canadian for professors in Canada and the United States and $75 Canadian for graduate students and international participants. Fees cover breakfast, lunch and breaks on Friday and Saturday. Fees are to be paid at the beginning of the Conference.
