CulturalDialoguesOpening2 The International Workshop “Cultural Dialogues, Religion and Communication” took place at the University of Ottawa on October 22nd, 2009. The workshop was a joint initiative of the Department of Communication, the School of Communication of the University of Miami, the Canada Research Chair in Collective Intelligence, the Canada Research Chair in the Contextualization of Religion in a Diverse Canada and the University Saint-Paul. Scholars, communication professionals and community activists from Canada, the United States, Europe and South America discussed and explored different perspectives about the dialogue between religions and cultures, including the philosophical, theological and ethical foundations of inter-religious encounters, the representations of the “other”, the encounter between religions and cultures in the media, and the scope and challenges of the interfaith dialogue in the global public sphere. The workshop was supported through a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (No. 646-2009-0024) and special contributions from the School of Communication of the University of Miami, the Canada Research Chair in Collective Intelligence and the University of Ottawa.
